Myth-busting episode 1: Money is the root of all evils
The Myth: Money is the root of all evils.
Consider a teen who has worked all her summer vacations for a pocket money to buy herself an expensive watch versus another kid who was just gifted one by a parent. Who will value and treasure her watch more?

Well, nobody respects freebies no matter how much we crave for it (please nod an yes, even if you don't agree). And that is because we don't associate it with a deeper emotion. It's the same with money. If you work to earn or create your wealth, only then you value it. If you inherit or win a jackpot, you are more likely to squander away beyond what you have, and more often than not, in socially unacceptable ways.
Money, in itself, is merely a tool to be used for achieving various purposes - whether it's procuring your food, shelter, necessities or luxury or for helping people with their needs. Wealth and Money are two very different things and what we really need to focus on is Wealth. Wealth can be anything that adds value to your life and others around you. For example, publishing a book that will help, entertain or inform others in one or more ways is a Wealth because it generates money for you once the book is out there in the world.
If we focus on building positive wealth that will add value to ourselves as well as the world around us, only then can we start seeing money for what it is, just a tool to convert one form of wealth to another. So instead of resigning our fate to a hard-working job of fixed salary because of self-limiting myth, we can focus on building our wealth, which will, in turn, generate money by default. More on that in a later post. Stay tuned.
The Fact: Money is good, pure, useful and necessary for our prosperity and growth, satisfaction and well-being.1
The Lesson: Teach your kids to earn their money instead of feeling entitled to your money. Don't limit them with myths because like it or not, one way to measure external success is your net worth (in money).
